iPhone translator: Thank you, Captain Kirk

by Ian on July 8, 2009 · 2 comments

It doesn’t have the convenience of a Babel Fish, but this is about as close as we can get with modern technology.  Sakhr, a company specializing in English/Arabic translation which serves such clients as the U.S. Department of Defense and Homeland Security, has revealed a demo for an application you can’t yet have.  Like most of our other innovations these days, the app has eery overtones of Star Trek technology:  specifically the Universal Translator in this case … which just goes to further prove that indeed William Shatner invented the modern world.

… but here’s the rub.  It’s just a demo.  You can’t have it.  Sorry.

Holy crow, batman! I wish that worked right now, since I am going on a big trip to a foreign land…
The future is scary. And amazing.
